Wrigleyville Real Estate

Wrigleyville Real Estate

Intro

Wrigleyville takes its name from the historic Wrigley Field, the countrys second-oldest baseball stadium. The neighborhood is a distinctive pocket of Lakeview, which is located just west of Lake Michigan and north of Lincoln Park. The famous stadium and an array of sports bars that line Sheffield, Clark, and Addison Avenues make the neighborhood a go-to destination for Chicagoans and tourists from far and wide. Other entertainment options in Wrigleyville range from comedy clubs to family-friendly restaurants.

History

Wrigleyville was a working-class neighborhood that emerged as a Lakeview enclave upon completion of Wrigley Field in 1914. Originally, the baseball stadium was called Weeghman Park and was renamed Wrigley Field in 1921 when chewing gum magnate William Wrigley, Jr., acquired control of the Chicago Cubs. Wrigleyvilles current architecture is similar to that of other residential neighborhoods in Chicago, with a growing number of luxury condos and many historic brownstones. One feature that sets it apart is the so-called Wrigley Rooftops, a small bleacher area found on the roofs of many homes surrounding the stadium, offering local residents convenient game-viewing options outside the stadium.

Demographics

Understandably popular with sports fans, Wrigleyville has a lively neighborhood vibe best described as sports and spirits. It tends to be an area that attracts young professionals, recent college grads, and others who are drawn to the neighborhoods bar scene and easy access to the stadium and downtown Chicago. Its not known as a shopping or foodie mecca, but it does have many of the amenities that young families seek, in addition to being pedestrian friendly and leafy.

Landmarks and Institutions

Wrigleyville boasts a number of cultural attractions including the Stage Left Theatre on West Belmont Avenue, which offers productions with an emphasis on contemporary social issues, and the famed Music Box Theatre on North Southport Avenue, a historic and ornate movie palace that screens current feature films as well as classics.
