Advice for Selling Your Home in the Winter

Selling Chicago real estate in the winter advice.

Recently, the Chicago Tribune article, Warm Up to Winter Home Selling, mentioned our own Related Realty Chicago agent, Cheena Chandra, help a couple buy their dream home and sell their at-the-time residence during the mid-December market; a market that real estate owners tend to avoid. But there are benefits to sell during the winter months.

Here are some tips that will help with selling your South Loop town house or Chicago home, while getting the most out of your real estate investment in the winter months.

Advice for Selling Your Home in the Winter

  • Winter buyers are a unique breed. They often are motivated buyers who have a specific reason that they are looking for a new home, such as a job transfer. Price your house so that it is competitive with the market and likely to sell. Work with your realtor in order to determine the right listing price for your home.
  • Give potential buyers additional views of your home. Inside the home, display pictures of what the house looks like during the warm months of spring and summer so they have a better idea of what the yard looks like.
  • Crank up the heat. Buyers will want to feel warm, comfortable and secure in your home. A cold, drafty home may be a turnoff to some buyers.
  • Be courteous and keep your walkways clear. Buyers will feel immediately frustrated if they have to trek through the snow just to get inside your house.
